Class Speaker: Greet the class on 5 different occasions. You must do the following: - introduce yourself - give the date, weather and any other pertinent information Chatty Cathy: Have a conversation in Spanish with Mrs. J. - If Mrs. Johnson is not teaching and you are not doing an activity you must have a short conversation with Mrs. J. Come prepared to discuss anything and to use only Spanish! Social Butterfly: Have a conversation in Spanish with a friend. - Chat with a friend who is also studying Spanish or with a native speaker and record yourself. Then submit the video to Mrs. J for viewing. Spanish Savant: Speak only Spanish for an entire class period. - During a class period you must speak only Spanish. You must actually speak Spanish. Make sure Mrs. J is aware that you are attempting to earn this "ficha" before class begins. Hungry Hispanic: Eat a meal at a Mexican restaurant and record yourself ordering in Spanish. - Make sure you use as many words to place your order as possible and that the you can hear the audio on the video recording. Bold Beginner: Introduce yourself in Spanish to someone you hear speaking Spanish that you have never met. - Record the introduction and possible conversation that follows. This could be really fun but make sure you are prepared and polite. Perceptive Pupil: Find 10 words that are written in Spanish in the world around you. - Write the words down as well as where you found them. Then define them on a sheet of paper. Spanish Chef: Find a recipe for a classic Spanish dish and record an instructional video of how to make it. - You must use a Spanish recipe...not a Mexican recipe. They are different. - If you choose to record your demonstration in Spanish you can earn more bonus. Cultural Connector: Research what one of the following Holidays have in common. - Find out using the internet or a Hispanic friend what one of the following holidays have in common as well as their differences. Then present that information to the class. - Quinceañera/Sweet Sixteen - Weddings - Funerals Geneaologist: Find out where your family is from. - Ask your parents/grandparents about their family heritage. Unless you are %100 percent Native American your ancestors were immigrants. Where were they from? How did they get here? Why did they come? Did they struggle? Did they speak the language? - After finding out your ancestry, present the information to the class. Music Lover: Find a song sung in Spanish that reflects the singers culture/history/hot political topic and analyze the song lyrics for the class. - Provide a link for Mrs. J to play the song for the class (make sure it is school appropriate) - Tell the class a little about the artist and analyze the song. (What it is about. Why they wrote it.) Tienda Tripper: Visit one of the 3 Hispanic "tiendas" in town. - Take a photo of yourself at the store. - For added points strike up a conversation with a store employee. Find out their name and where they are from and take a picture with that person. | Engaged Interviewer: Ask a native Spanish-speaker about the country they/their parents are from. - Ask them about the key differences between the U.S. and their country. What do they miss? What do they like about the U.S.? Why did they come here? - Record the interview on video and present to the class. - Receive more points if you conduct the interview in Spanish either fully or partially. Humanitarian: Identify an organization that assists the Spanish-speaking community and volunteer at least 1 hour of your time. - Take a picture showing you volunteering your time and write a description of what you did and for which organization. Joker: Find and memorize 3 jokes in Spanish and tell them to Mrs. J. - Make sure you understand what the joke means in English and that is appropriate for school. - Choose one of the 3 jokes to tell the class. Multicultural Media Observer: Watch at least 30 min. of Spanish television. - Have a short conversation with Mrs. J about the program. - Be prepared to discuss the following: What was it about? What channel did you watch? When and where did you watch it? What type of show was it? Meteorologist: Present the weather for our area as well as 3 Spanish-speaking countries to the class. - You must present entirely in Spanish giving the temperature as well as conditions i.e. rain, sun etc. - Make sure you let Mrs. J know you will be doing this. Professional: Research how being fluent in Spanish will help you excel in your future career. - What do you want to be? How will being fluent in Spanish assist you? - Make a list of 10-20 Spanish vocabulary words that would assist you in this profession. - Discuss your findings and show Mrs. J your words. Fútbol Fan: Play a game of soccer using only Spanish. - Look up a few important words you may need while playing soccer. - Record yourself playing and using some of those words. Make sure you can hear you using Spanish on the recording. Terrific Tutor: Assist a classmate with a difficult grammar concept. - Record yourself re-teaching/helping a classmate understand a grammar concept and show the video to Mrs. J. Wordsmith: Make a list of 20 Spanish vocabulary words that are associated with one of your hobbies. - Research words on-line. It cannot be made up of words we have gone over in class. - Make flashcards of the words and show them to Mrs. J. |
